About Team Lactation

About Our Mission

Team Lactation Care is here to provide breastfeeding support and education to families. Our job is to support your goals and give you the tools to reach those goals in a nurturing environment.

Whether you’re pregnant and want the skills to be able to nurse confidently, an adoptive family or surrogate, or are struggling to feed your baby, we are here for you.

We come to your home, in the office, hospital/birth center, or virtually.

About Our Practice

Breastfeeding is so much more than just feeding breastmilk. We believe in looking at the whole breastfeeding dyad. We evaluate latch, infant oral anatomy, and body movement. We look at maternal diet, breast anatomy, pregnancy, and birth.

We practice holistically. We might suggest bodywork/chiropractic care, herbs, homeopathy, and nutritional supplements.

We believe in supporting your breastfeeding journey through collaborative care with your pediatrician, midwife/obstetrician, chiropractor/osteopath, and many other healthcare providers. Being a team provides you with the best plan for breastfeeding success.

About Shanna Reynolds

Founder of Team Lactation Care

Personal Experience

Shanna is a married mother of 3 children, including a set of twins, all which were breastfed. She understands the many challenges that can arise while breastfeeding and the lack of support that can inhibit a successful breastfeeding journey. That’s is why her passion is to help others reach their breastfeeding goals in a caring and nonjudgmental environment.

Professional Credentials

Shanna began her breastfeeding support journey in 2010 as a Breastfeeding Peer Counselor with WIC. In 2012 she got her CLC with the Healthy Children’s project. Shanna is currently an IBCLC student/intern awaiting to take her boards to be an IBCLC. An IBCLC is the “gold standard” for lactation professionals and requires the most training and education.

Specialty Training

Shanna has has the pleasure of working beside and learning from some of the best lactation professionals in the field. She has taken several continuing education hours, attended breastfeeding symposiums, and received hands-on training specific to infant latch, infant oral function and infant structure. Staying current on the most updated breastfeeding education is key to being able to support others.

Experience In and Out of the Office

Shanna has experience doing in-home visits, hospital/birth center visits, office visits, teaching breastfeeding classes, and facilitating breastfeeding support groups. She has volunteered her time to teach teen breastfeeding classes and support teen mothers who choose to breastfeed.

About Allie Sawyer, RN, IBCLC

Allie was born and raised in the Roanoke Valley and graduated from a local college in 2014 with her Registered Nurse degree. Allie got married in 2016 and has two sons, Logan and Mason. She always had a passion for obstetrics and worked in the Labor and Delivery unit at Roanoke Memorial Hospital for 5 years before deciding to stay at home when her youngest son was born in 2020. Allie took that time to achieve her Lactation training and passed her IBCLC boards in 2021 and currently works PRN on the Mother/Baby unit at Roanoke Memorial as a Lactation Consultant as well as with TLC learning the Private Practice field of Lactation with Shanna.

Allie was able to breast feed both of her sons for a total of 3 years. Her journey with both sons included severe tongue and lip ties, laser revision, milk protein allergies and soy intolerance. Allie also has personal experience with exclusively pumping, SNS, and nursing during pregnancy.

As you can see, Allie has experienced almost it all. Through her trials with her own journey, Allie is passionate about ensuring every family feels supported and receives the correct information for their nursing needs. Allie is continuing her Lactation education in tongue tie training, oral habilitation, and holistic care.
